Announcement of the Master’s Thesis Defense in the field of the History of Science – Specialization in the History of Mathematics in the Islamic World

The Institute for the History of Science, University of Tehran, announces the defense session of Mr. Majid Ehsani-Nik, a graduate student in the History of Science with a specialization in the History of Mathematics in the Islamic World. The thesis is entitled: “Visualization and Scientometric Analysis of Scientific Manuscripts in Iranian Libraries: Mathematics.” The thesis has been supervised by Dr. Hassan Amini and advised by Dr. Mahshid Atmasi. The examination committee includes Dr. Amir-Mohammad Gomini (internal examiner) and Dr. Nasrin Poursalehi (external examiner).

About the Research

This thesis examines the scientific and mathematical manuscripts preserved in Iranian libraries, with a particular focus on works produced during the Islamic era. By applying methods of visualization and scientometrics, the researcher seeks to:

• Identify the structure and scholarly networks related to mathematics in Iranian manuscripts.
• Represent the transmission and dissemination of mathematical knowledge in the Islamic world through manuscript analysis.
• Investigate the patterns of production, authorship, and circulation of mathematical works within Iranian scientific and cultural centers.

This research represents one of the pioneering interdisciplinary studies in the field of Islamic history of science. It integrates innovative approaches from data visualization and scientometric analysis with historical source studies, thereby opening new pathways for research in the history of mathematics and Islamic codicology.
